TMI Book Tag

Hello travelers!
I thought I would do another booktag this week. This version is from JessetheReader. I know it's a bit older but I'll be honest and say I've hit a bit of a slump and needed an easyish idea for this post. So I hope you enjoy getting to know far too much about me and i promise to have an actual review up next week. questions: 1) What fictional character has the best style? I'd have to choose between Kaz Brekker and Mia Corvere. Kaz because it's such a distinct look and Mia because she can go from feminine to bad ass in a matter of seconds. 2)Your book girlfriend/boyfriend/ fictional crush? I don't really have one. I remember being enamored with Gaara of the Sand from the Naruto manga when I was younger. 3)Ever loved a character but than started hating them? Harry Potter. I started reading the books when I was ten and Harry was great. Then the Order of the Phoenix came out and he turned into such a brat that I couldn't stand him any more. 4)Biggest/Longest book on your shelf? Les Miserables by Victor Hugo is the longest (1262 pages) but that kind of feels like cheating. Not including my short story collections (Edgar Allan Poe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, H.P. Lovecraft etc.) The next biggest book is Towers of Midnight by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson 5)Heaviest book on your shelf? Probably one of my Wheel of Time books. 6)Do you have any book posters? Yes. I have posters for my Children of Blood and Bone book, and my Eragon and Eldest books. 7)Do you have any book themed jewelry? I have mini book earrings and a necklace to match, and a mockingjay pin. 8)Book OTP? Nevil Longbottom and Luna Lovegood. I think this was the first OTP that I ever had. 9)Favorite book series? Why does this question even exist? Is it just to give readers anxiety over their books? I want to say either A Series of Unfortunate Events (it was the series that got me through a rough time in my childhood) or the Inheritance Cycle (which got me into writing). 10)Favorite Book-to-movie soundtrack? Howl's Moving Castle 11)A book story you miss/ wish would continue? This one is tricky since a lot of authors are now coming out with continuations of their stories so whatever I say might be outdated in a short amount of time. Right now, I'm honestly the most excited about Christopher Paolini's Alegasia short stories, so I might go with that as my answer. 12)Favorite stand-alone? There are a few that might work here. Skin by Ted Dekker, The Oath by Frank Perretti, or House by Dekker and Perretti might be my favorite stand alone mostly because they were some of the first thrillers that I read when I was far too young to read them. I also really like Beowulf. 13)Since when do you read books? I got into reading when I was 10 (thanks Harry Potter). 14)Which Hogwarts house are you in? Hufflepuff and proud. 15)Quality you look for in a book? smart characters (not just academic smart; street smart and emotionally/situational smart are also great), characters with a lot of depth and complexity, action or suspense, expansive worlds I can get lost in, sarcastic narrators or characters, anything that will keep me guessing and get me excited whenever I get it right. 16)Favorite book quote: "Too many books, too few centuries" from the Nevernight series. 17)Favorite author? Christopher Paolini, Lemony Snicket/David Handler, Jay Kristoff, Masashi Kishimoto, Neil Gaiman 18)Favorite book cover? Anything that creates intrigue and doesn't include the main character on the front unless it is highly stylized. For example, i hate the live model covers for the Throne of Glass books but I don't mind the illustrated versions. Six of Crows has a good cover. Nevernight is good. Children of Blood and Bone is beautiful. My version of Lies of Locke Lamora is a little plant but it gives the setting. I'm also not a fan of the covers for the Stalking Jack the Ripper books. 19)Action or Romance? Action! Always action. Romance is fine as a side plot but if it's the main focus, I can't stand it. 20)Where do you go when a sad moment happens? Usually just wander the house looking for something to distract myself. 21)How long do you need to finish a book? Depends on the book. The shortest has been a day the longest was two months (curse you Paradise Lost) 22)How long is your mourning period? Usually a day. 23)Least favorite Book? Either Paradise Lost or The Unfortunate Life of Oscar Wao 24)Turn on in a character? selflessness, determination, bad ass with a kind heart, trying to improve themselves despite past struggles 25)Turn off in a character? being an asshole especially towards people who are trying to help. 26)Name a scary book? The only book to ever scare me and give me nightmares was The Black Stallion's Ghost. It's not scary in any way but that's the one I remember scaring me. Dean Koontz's Frankenstein: The Prodigal Son also had a chapter that really freaked me out but it is probably the best chapter I've ever read. 28)Last book that made you cry? I am an empath. I will cry at almost anything. I cried at the end of Martin the Warrior as a recent example. 29)Last book that you gave 5 stars? Martin the Warrior 30)Any favorite book titles? Far too many to name. Again, intrigue, something that relates to the story but doesn't give anything away. I've probably already said the names enough times in this post for you to kind of guess which ones i like. 31)Last book you read? Queen of Hearts 32)Book you're currently reading? Godsgrave 33)Last book adaptation you watched? I'm honestly not sure. Possibly The Red Shoes. 34)A book character you always wanted to talk to? Gaara of the Sand, specifically the child Gaara so I could give him a hug. 35)An author you always wanted to talk to? Neil Gaiman 36)Favorite Book snack? I usually don't eat and read at the same time but I've done popcorn or chips or cashews. 37)Book world you want to live in? If i had the knowledge and skills necessary to survive, either in Godsgrave, Camorr (Lies of Lock Lamora), or Ketterdam (Six of Scrows). I'm also fond of Alegesia (Inheritance Cycle). 38)Book world you DON’T want to live in? Panem 39)Last time you smelled a book? Sometimes after a rough day I'll just sit in front of my bookshelves and breathe in the air. This is becoming a more common occurrence in recent weeks. 40)Weird insults used in books? Anything that is more creative than the usual swearing insults. Shakespeare obviously has some of the best. 41)Favorite romance book? I don't really have one. I guess Pride and Prejudice or Woman in White. 42)Do you write? Yes. All the time. 43)Favorite magical item? Not including magical creatures, enchanted weapons or things that appear to be everyday items. 44)Your quidditch position? Probably a chaser. 45)Name a song you connect to a book 46)Favorite book related chat up line? I honestly don't have one. Given enough time on Pinterest, I'm sure I could find one. 47)Have you ever used it? Don't have one so no. 48)Favorite book fandom? At the moment, I think it's the Nevernight or Illuminai or Aurora Rising or Six of Crows . . . I like to many to really choose from. 49)How many books do you own? Too many. I'm actually planning an unhaul in the near future.

Blade of the Immortal Vol. 1-4 Review

Blade of the Immortal by Hiroaki Saura, originally Mugen no Junin, published by Afternoon from Jun 1993 to December 2012.  In America, it was published by Dark Horse Comics, using a cut-and-paste method instead of the mirror image method in order to make the series read left-to-right. This was done at Mr. Samura's request to preserve his artwork and to avoid flipping the manji symbol used throughout the series. The series was made into an anime, directed by Koichi Mashimo and produced by Bee Train, released July through December 2008 and released by Media Blsters in North America in September 2009. There was also a 2017 live action film adaption directed by Takashi Miike and staring Takuya Kimura. The manga won a 1997 Excellence Prize at the Japan Media Arts Festival and a Will Eisener Comic industry Award in 2000. It sold 5 million copies as of February 2017. I managed to find the Dark Horse versions at a local second hand bookstore. Unfortunately, these edit...

Breath

Update 9/28/18: I am now an affiliate with Z Publishing House. I do receive a small commission for items purchased through this link (http://www.zpublishinghouse.com?rfsn=1831564.e6264) if anyone is interested in anthologies of emerging writers. Breath is written by Donna Jo Napoli and published by Atheneum Books in 2003. Napoli is an American author of young adult and children’s books such as The Magic Circle (1993), Beast (2000), and Dark Shimmer (2015). This is a YA historical fantasy retelling of the Pied Piper legend. Most of this is rooted in historical fact but some elements such as the piper legend and “magic” makes it dip into fantasy. While this reads similarly to a middle grade book, this does deal with some more mature material, including suggestive material, as well as some gruesome scenes with the plague. *Some Spoilers Ahead* Slaz is a twelve year old farmer’s son who has always been sickly. His lungs fill with mucus, causing him to cough and ...

The Song of Roland

Update 9/28/18: I am now an affiliate with Z Publishing House. I do get a small commission from any purchases through this link ( http://www.zpublishinghouse.com?rfsn=1831564.e6264) if anyone is interested in some anthologies of emerging writers. I'm cheating a little by starting with a story that has been around since around 1099 AD (approximately). Not a lot of people will read this book outside of a literature class and I honestly can't blame them. The reason why I bought this book was because of a song I found on Youtube. "The Song of Roland" is a ballad about a knight who is tricked into fighting the Sarasans. He is inevitably betrayed by another knight who convinces the king the horn he hears is just Roland hunting. Roland and his army are slaughtered and later is considered a tragic hero. This is a a good summary of what happens in the book, though not exactly. A quick summary: (Spoilers alert) French King Charles, also known as Charlemagne, is convin...
