February Wrap-up and March TBR

Welcome travelers to the Map Shop! February was a weird reading month for me. I wanted to do the Manga Madness readathon but found out it was canceled for this round while they did some reorganizing. And then I went on a week's vacation to Mexico with my family. On top of this, when I tried to do my  decades reading challenge, I put myself into a mini reading slump. I ended up having to DNF them in order to get on with the rest of my reading. So, here's a quick look at what I read during February: Dubliners by James Joyce-- DNF'd. Just couldn't hold my attention. Blade of the Immortal: Blood of a Thousand(vol. 1) by Hiroaki Samura Blade o the Immortal: Cry of the Worm (vol. 2) by Hiroaki Samura Blade of the Immortal: Dreamsong (vol. 3) by Hiroaki Samura Blade of the Immortal: Dark Shadows (vol. 6) by Hiroaki Samura-- I mistook this for volume 4 since there aren't any numbers marking them and since the plot seemed to pick up right where 3 left off. Tarza...

By The Book Book Tag

*Correction to my Blade of the Immortal post from last week. I mistakenly read the first three volumes and the sixth volume, thinking it was the fourth. The fact that the plot flowed so easily between volume three and volume six either means there wasn't a lot happening in four and five, or it shows how well written the series is. I just wanted to clarify that before we get started here.* By the Book is an ongoing column series in the New York Times newspaper where different people, authors to actors to politicians, are asked a series of questions about what they are reading and what books they enjoy or recommend to others. Marie Berg used these questions and created a book tag for BookTube and Book Bloggers to use. I love seeing who the New York Times interviews and compairing my reading list with theirs so I thought this might be a fun tag to do. Enjoy! 1) What book is on your nightstand right now?         I have a couple that I'm reading right now. The...

Blade of the Immortal Vol. 1-4 Review

Blade of the Immortal by Hiroaki Saura, originally Mugen no Junin, published by Afternoon from Jun 1993 to December 2012.  In America, it was published by Dark Horse Comics, using a cut-and-paste method instead of the mirror image method in order to make the series read left-to-right. This was done at Mr. Samura's request to preserve his artwork and to avoid flipping the manji symbol used throughout the series. The series was made into an anime, directed by Koichi Mashimo and produced by Bee Train, released July through December 2008 and released by Media Blsters in North America in September 2009. There was also a 2017 live action film adaption directed by Takashi Miike and staring Takuya Kimura. The manga won a 1997 Excellence Prize at the Japan Media Arts Festival and a Will Eisener Comic industry Award in 2000. It sold 5 million copies as of February 2017. I managed to find the Dark Horse versions at a local second hand bookstore. Unfortunately, these edit...

Work In Progress Tag

Welcome travelers, Authortube has a tag for their Works In Progress, originally created by Jessi Elliott. I tend to work in multiple projects at once so I thought I'd make one project post here and a second a little later on. Now, on with the tag! What is the working title of your book? Shadow's Mist Where did the idea come from? It came from an RPG that I found when I was in high school. What genre is your work in progress? It's a fantasy, it started as a YA fantasy but as I work on it, I'm considering aging up the characters a bit. Choose the actors in your movie rendition: Honestly, I'd prefer to have people who were lesser known or just starting out. If I had to choose, Anya Taylor-Joy or Naomi Scott are high on my list. One sentence synopsis of your book: Jun's first mission into the dragon lands goes wrong when the sorceress Karyan attempts to use her rare powers to capture the creature that lurks in the mist but both realize some powers are ...
